One of the best free solutions out there to check for duplicate files is Duper.
Duper is a freeware program that runs in Java; the only requirement is to have Java installed whether you are running Mac OS, Linux, or Windows. Once we add the directories-to-be-searched in Duper, it looks for files with identical file sizes. For each group of files with the same size, an MD5 sum is computed and then used to determine if they are identical.
This second check is what determines whether the files are truly identical or not. The user is then notified of the number of detected identical files.
We can then choose to delete the duplicates or keep them as they were.
The program’s options can be modified before executing any searches to change the level of detection.
Overall, Duper is a great freeware duplicate file detection solution and will serve most users very well.
“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”
