Free Up Disk Space By Finding And Deleting Duplicate Files In Windows

Are you worried that you might have duplicate files hoarding up hard drive space on your computer? If yes, then do not bother manually searching for those suspected duplicates. Doing so manually can be grossly time-consuming and even inefficient.

For each group of files with the same size, an MD5 sum is computed and then used to determine if they are identical.

This second check is what determines whether the files are truly identical or not. The user is then notified of the number of detected identical files.

We can then choose to delete the duplicates or keep them as they were.

The program’s options can be modified before executing any searches to change the level of detection.
Overall, Duper is a great freeware duplicate file detection solution and will serve most users very well.

How To Easily Install Windows 7/Vista/XP From A USB Flash Drive

Have you ever tried to install an operating system via a USB flash drive?
I had to do it for the first time about 4 months ago. I was helping out a friend with his Windows Vista installation. He was installing Windows on his laptop but due to a fault in his optical media device (DVD ROM) the setup did not load beyond a particular point. Therefore I looked for ways in which I could boot the laptop via a flash drive and run the setup from there.
I had calculated that I did not need to do much more than copying the Windows Vista DVD’s setup files to the flash drive. However as I soon discovered from online tutorials, the USB-installation was not as simple as that. I had to perform a series of complicated steps and most of them were in Command Prompt.

In the process of leaning USB-installation I also learned that there were different USB-installation methods for different Windows versions (XP, Vista, and 7). But to my relief (and to the relief of anybody wanting to carry out a USB installation) there is a tool that supremely simplifies the process for us. This tool is called WinToFlash.
Let me take you through the process step by step.
Step 1:
WinToFlash works for installation of XP, Vista, and 7. So insert the operating system’s DVD into your optical media device. If you have a disc image, mount it on a virtual drive. Simply having the setup files extracted in a folder will also do.
Step 2:
Open up WinToFlash, select the setup files folder (or the drive letter of the disc), and select the drive letter of the flash drive.

Click on Next.
Step 3:
Your existing data on the flash drive will be erased. You will be reminded of this by WinToFlash.

If you have not already, then backup your data.
Step 4:
Your files will now begin to copy onto your flash drive. This process will take a while and when it is over, you will easily have obtained a bootable Windows-installing flash drive.

How to Protect Computer From USB Flash Drive Autorun/Startup Viruses – Wimp

I have recently discovered a developer’s (L. Madhavan) website on which he/she has posted his many useful software projects. One of them was LAN Messenger which I have already told you about. Another one of his Windows programs is Wimp. The name is derived from Windows Malware Protection and is only 200KB large. No installation is required – all we do is extract the EXE file from the downloaded archive and open it.

So what exactly does Wimp do? In the developer’s own words:

Wimp was initially designed to remove the many common “flash drive” viruses, i.e. those that spread through USB flash drives; currently, Wimp detects and removes more than 15 of these “flash drive” viruses.
Wimp also prevents malicious programs from disabling Task Manager and Registry Editor, and also prevents changes to many other important system settings.
Protect your system from common “flash drive” viruses, and prevent malicious programs from modifying important system settings or disabling essential utilities such as Task Manager.

In other words, Wimp is a great tool to have running at all times. It neatly sits in our System Tray and notifies us whenever it removes an infection. My suggestion would be to continue to use whatever antivirus program you have to scan your flash drive in addition to Wimp’s scan (one might detect an infection overlooked by the other).

Madhavan also suggests how to use the program:
“To make the best use of Wimp, place it in your Startup folder: Go to Start > Programs, right-click on Startup and select Open. Create a shortcut to Wimp in this folder.”
Wimp is a tiny yet useful program that deserves two thumbs up.

FOR WINDOWS USERS

Access your network adapter’s properties. (Go into Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center)

Enter the IPv4 connectivity options and change the preferred and secondary DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 respectively.

Click OK and restart your internet connection to apply the new settings.

FOR MAC USERS

Select your network by adapter by going to System Preferences -> Network.

Add the same DNS servers in your adapter’s advanced properties.

Confirm the settings and restart your internet connection to apply them

FOR LINUX (UBUNTU) USERS

Enter you adapter’s properties through System -> Preferences -> Network Connections. Then go to the Wired or Wireless tab (depending on your connection type) and click on the “Edit” button.

Enter the same servers in the IPv4 settings. Separate the servers by a single space.

Click on “Apply” and restart the net connection.

How to: Increase The FileSystem Memory Cache Size To Speed Up Windows 7

If you are running Windows 7 and experiencing slow application response times while running many programs simultaneously, then you most probably need to increase the file systemmemory cache size. Increasing the file system memory cache size often leads to applications running smoother and faster. Below I have explained how you can increase this cache size in Windows 7.

Note: You should go ahead with this procedure if you have a sufficient amount of RAM(computer memory) installed on your computer.

THROUGH THE COMMAND LINE

Firstly you need to be logged in as the Administrator. If you are logged in as any other user, then head on over the Command Prompt shortcut in the Start Menu, right-click on it and choose the “Run as Administrator” option.

In the command prompt, you can enter the following line to increase the cache size (to increase the limit of paged pool memory):

fsutil behavior set memoryusage 2

To restore the setting, the following line should be entered in the command prompt:

fsutil behavior set memoryusage 1

THROUGH THE SYSTEM REGISTRY

Access the Run box by pressing the Windows Logo button on your keyboard and the R key. Type in “regedit”

You will see a window with folder paths on the left. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ FileSystem

In the right pane, locate the entry titled “NtfsMemoryUsage.”

You can set three values to this entry: 0 for not set, 1 for default, and 2 for increased.

After you have increased the cache either through command prompt or system registry, restart your computer and test if there are any considerable gains in system speed. Hopefully you will experience a noticeable difference but if you do not, it would be a good idea to revert your cache settings.

Cara Membuat Instalasi Windows 7 / Vista dari USB Flashdisk

Biasanya proses meng-install Windows 7 atau Vista dilakukan melalui DVD dengan DVD-ROM / RW. Tetapi kini dengan banyaknya netbook atau laptop yang tidak menyertakan DVD-ROM, orang kadang bingung bagaimana cara menginstallnya. Solusinya adalah membuat Installasi Windows 7 atau Vista ke dalam USB Flashdisk ( USB Drive). Untuk membuatnya kita bisa menggunakan software gratis Setup from USB. 

Setup from USB merupakan software gratis (open source) yang ditujukan untuk membuat installasi windows 7 atau Vista ke dalam USB Flash drive. Sehingga Flashdisk menjadi Bootable dan hal ini memudahkan proses installasi bagi pengguna yang mempunyai netbook atau laptop tanpa DVD-ROM / DVD-RW.

Langkah Pembuatan Bootable USB

Untuk membuat bootable USB yang berisi installasi Windows 7 atau Windows Vista, siapkan flashdisk berukuran minimal 4GB. selanjutnya, download dan install terlebih dahulu SetupFromUSB ( 4.8 MB). Setelah di download, extract zip file ini dan jalankan setup.exe. Selanjutnya pembuatannya sebagai berikut :

1. Jalankan program Setup From USB
2. Pilih lokasi installasi windows 7 atau Vista. Biasanya drive dari DVD Rom
   
    
3. Langkah selanjutnya adalah memilih lokasi yang akan di jadikan bootable, yaitu USB Flash Drive kita. Pastikan data penting di Flashdisk sudah di pindahkan, karena Flashdisk akan di Format (semua isinya dihapus), termasuk semua partisi di flashdisk jika ada
   
   
   
4. Setelah dipilih, beri tanda chek tulisan warna merah dibawahnya ( I have already backup all data… ), lalu klik Next
5. Akan tampil konfirmasi pilihan kita, jika sudah yakin, klik Finish
   
6. Tunggu proses pembuatan Bootable USB Windows 7/Vista

Setelah selesai, maka USB Flashdisk ini menjadi bootable dan bisa digunakan untuk menginstall windows 7 atau Vista sesuai dengan sumber yang kita buat. Untuk Bisa booting dari Flashdisk, maka BIOS komputer/laptop/netbook harus diatur agar urutan booting pertama kali adalah USB atau removable media.

Salah satu diantaranya adalah dengan mengedit format Page Title agar lebih SEO friendly. Dengan merubah format judul postingan, blog kita akan lebih mudah terindex dan muncul di halaman google search yang kemudian akan menarik dan menambah pengunjung/visitors pada blog kita. Caranya cari kode berikut di EDIT HTML ( cara mudahnya di Mozilla tekan ctrl +f lalu copy paste kode dibawah ini):

Kalo udah dapet kodenya hapus dan ganti dengan kode berikut ini :
